CHARLY & JOHAYRON

Charly & Johayron is a Cuban urban music duo consisting of Carlos de Jesús Coronado Chirino (Charly) and Roberto Johayron Amores Rodríguez (Johayron), who have become one of the most successful and popular acts in current Cuban reggaeton.

Their story began over five years ago when social media facilitated their union. Both artists recall how they occasionally coincided at early recording studios when each was working with their independent duos. The chemistry was so spontaneous that they cannot pinpoint the exact moment they became Charly & Johayron. It all started when one shared a song on social media and the other didn't hesitate to send positive comments, initiating a collaboration that would change their lives.

Curiously, both dreamed of becoming singers from age 13, even without knowing each other. Since then, their only goal has been to achieve success, take Cuba's name to the top, and have thousands of people singing and enjoying their songs.

Their music is primarily framed in reggaeton with lyrics addressing themes of love and heartbreak, deeply connecting with Cuban youth. Among their biggest hits is "El Punto" (2024), in collaboration with El Taiger and Bebeshito, produced by Ernesto Losa and Roberto Ferrante under the Planet Records label. Other notable tracks include "Niveles Son Niveles", "El Error", "El Fallo", and "Mujer Igual Que Tú".

The duo has achieved important milestones in their career, including their participation in the Vibra Urbana festival, where they shared the stage with major international artists, and their attendance at Premios Lo Nuestro 2024 in Miami. In April 2024, they filled Miami's James L. Knight Center with approximately 5,000 attendees, consolidating their international presence.

Their trajectory has not been without controversy. In September 2023, they suffered a violent assault in Las Tunas when furious fans stoned their bus after canceling a concert, resulting in damage to their equipment and instruments, and injuries to team members, including Johayron. They have also faced criticism for their ambiguous political position regarding the Cuban government, especially after avoiding comments about the March 2024 social protests.

Despite successful tours in the United States, the duo has expressed their commitment to Cuba, ensuring they will continue returning to the island. El Charly arrived in the United States in March 2023 through family reunification, while Johayron has maintained his residence in Cuba. With over 800,000 Instagram followers and a YouTube silver plaque for surpassing 100,000 subscribers, Charly & Johayron continue to be known as "los lápices de Cuba pal mundo" (Cuba's pencils for the world).
